The Ugly Duckling children's opera performed by Opera Columbus is a whimsical retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved fairy tale, with an original score by composer Andrew Duncan.
The Ugly Duckling doesn’t fit in with the other ducklings because she looks and sounds different than they do. But when the Ugly Duckling saves the other ducklings from the Big Bad Wolf after learning about his tricks, the others learn to love the Ugly Duckling for her intelligence and bravery, and begin to truly appreciate her for who she is.
Through this adaptation of the classic Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tale, students will be exposed to operatic music and classical singing, while exploring the important themes of diversity and tolerance. Acceptance of others and the value of cooperation are themes that are interwoven throughout this year’s Opera Goes to School performance.
Recommended for grades preK-5. More information and performance photos at Opera Columbus.
